Nothing has teamed up with Mumsnet, the UK’s largest online parenting community, to launch a new smartphone designed to keep kids safe from the worst of the internet. It’s called the Other Phone, and according to Mumsnet, it’s “the safest phone for children on the market.”
Built in collaboration with SafetyMode, the Other Phone takes Nothing’s CMF Phone 2 Pro and layers it with a powerful suite of parental controls and AI-driver content filters. In short, it looks and feels like a proper smartphone but behaves like one that finally learned how to say “no.”
Parents can control exactly which apps their child can access, set time limits, and block addictive platforms like TikTok or Snapchat entirely. SafetyMode’s software goes further than most parental control apps, scanning messages, images, and even in-app content across services like WhatsApp and Instagram for harmful material, including nudity, bullying, and explicit language.
The result is a phone that puts parents back in control while giving kids a sense of independence. “Parents feel trapped between wanting their kids to stay connected and knowing that most devices are designed with profit, not safety, in mind,” said Justine Roberts, Mumsnet’s founder. “The Other Phone gives parents peace of mind, with tools that let them set real boundaries.”

Under the hood, the Other Phone is essentially the CMF Phone 2 Pro which means it’s no slouch. Expect a 6.77-inch AMOLED display, MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Pro chipset, 8GB of RAM, and a 5,000mAh battery. It even has a four-camera setup, proving that this safety-first smartphone doesn’t compromise on performance or design.
The clever bit is that SafetyMode can be disabled once parents feel their child is ready, reverting the device back to Nothing’s Nothing OS. As Ben Wharfe, Nothing UK’s General Manager, put it, “It’s a phone that grows with your child.”
Priced at £279 upfront plus £5.99 per month for SafetyMode Plus, the Other Phone costs less than half of rival “safe” smartphones like the HMD Fuse – and arguably looks far cooler, too.
For now, it’s launching in the UK as part of a pilot program, but wider availability could follow soon. For parents looking for a balance between freedom and protection, this might be the most practical solution yet – and for kids, it’s a safety phone that actually looks like something worth showing off.
