    Share

42 min: “C’mon Burnley,” shout the home supporters, but Chelsea are starting to click. Delap can’t nail his cross from the left after a quick break by the visitors.

40 min: Neto gets a yellow for some timewasting it seems.

The ball is sent long to Cucurella inside the Burnley area. He lays it down and passes back to Gittens. The left winger delivers a lovely curling cross to the far post, with Neto arriving for a diving header past Dubravka. That’s a terrific move.

36 min: James whips in a Chelsea corner, right into a crowded mixer. Dubravka punches the ball away but not to safety; the danger eventually relents.

    Share

34 min: Delap turns and runs … plays in Neto on the right, who lays the ball across goal … Gittens is there for the tap-in … but Walker pulls off a terrific interception to deny Chelsea the lead. Brilliant from the former Manchester City man.

    Share

32 min: There was a handball shout against Chelsea in their own area a few minutes ago: it looked like Sánchez had already played the goalkick before it was stopped by Chalobah, with his hand, and retaken.

    Share

31 min: Chalobah launches a low, curling effort from distance – but it’s not to trouble Dubravka.

    Share

28 min: Walker plays a ball into the path of Tchaouna on the right, he rolls it in to the middle … but not to a teammate.

27 min: … the ball into the area is wasted.

    Share

19 min: Neto is finally in the game, finding the ball again on the right before dinking in a cross. Gittens, on the other wing, launches his stepovers before overcooking his ball in to the middle.

17 min: Neto finally has a chance to pick up the ball on the right, cut in and shoot … he wins a corner. In it comes from James, but Dubravka punches away the inswinger.

    Share

14 min: Chelsea look a touch sloppy in possession; I doubt Maresca is a happy man at the moment.

    Share

12 min: Tchaouna finds himself on the left wing and he plays a delicious pass into the area, where Anthony collects and pings a shot … another terrific block is required to protect Sánchez in net. Burnley’s wide men are making some very tricky runs in behind.

    Share

10 min: Flemming’s fine holdup play sets Anthony free for Burnley … he gets into the area and fires a shot but the retreating Andrey Santos delivers a sliding block.

    Share

9 min: Delap breaks free through the middle for Chelsea after picking up a wayward Burnley pass. He lets fly from more than 20 yards out … but Dubravka has no reason to stress.

    Share

7 min: Tchaouna finds himself one-on-one with Chalobah inside the area; the Burnley forward cuts in on to his left foot but the Chelsea defender pulls off a fine block.

    Peeeep!

And we’re off. Chelsea get us going, with Sánchez sending the ball long.

    Share

The players are out and about – we’ll get going pretty soon.

    Share

A reminder: there’s no Cole Palmer for Chelsea, their star man’s injury troubles continuing with a fractured toe sustained at home. “It can happen,” said Maresca. “I wake up many times during the night to go to the toilet. I hit my head, my legs, my everything, so it can happen.”

    Share

Enzo Maresca says Moisés Caicedo is on the bench because he returned from international duty on Thursday evening, had a light session on Friday and there’s a need to “protect” the midfielder.

Here’s how the aforementioned Burnley win eight years ago played out.

    ShareWill Unwin

It is a gloriously wet and windy day at Turf Moor as Burnley and Chelsea prepare to reawaken their Premier League campaigns after the international break. The Blues have won their last seven Saturday lunchtime kick-offs, so will fancy their chances in Lancashire. They are looking to prove they are title contenders, and a win today would move Chelsea up to second for a few hours at least.

After two straight losses, Burnley will want to give their fans something to cheer. This is a crucial stage of the season for the Clarets, who sit one place above the drop zone. Home points will be essential for Scott Parker’s side and after defeats to Liverpool and Arsenal here, they will be desperate to show they can unsettle one of the top six.

    Share

Moisés Caicedo begins on the bench for Chelsea, as does Alejandro Garnacho, who set up two goals in the victory over Wolves. Burnley are unchanged from their 3-2 defeat by West Ham.

    The teams

Burnley: Dubravka, Walker, Tuanzebe, Estève, Hartman, Florentino, Cullen, Tchaouna, Ugochukwu, Anthony, Flemming

Subs: Weiss, Bruun Larsen, Foster, Edwards, Ekdal, Lucas Pires, Broja, Mejbri, Laurent

Chelsea: Sánchez, James, Chalobah, Adarabioyo, Cucurella, Santos, Fernández, Neto, João Pedro, Gittens, Delap

Subs: Jörgensen, Badiashile, Hato, Caicedo, Gusto, Acheampong, Guiu, Estêvão, Garnacho

    Preamble

Barcelona on Tuesday, Arsenal next weekend. But first, a trip to Turf Moor for Chelsea and a chance to go second in the league. They’ve got two wins on the bounce, while Burnley hover above the relegation spots on goal difference. History doesn’t favour the hosts either; they’ve won just one of their 18 Premier League games against Chelsea, a 3-2 triumph at Stamford Bridge eight years ago. But maybe Scott Parker, once a blue, has something special planned for us. We’ll get going at 12.30pm GMT.
