Samsung expects ‘AI’ to sell 35 million Galaxy S26 series units

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S26 series might seem a little messy to outside observers, but no amount of drama or rumored Edge cancellations could seemingly dampen what the company sees as a slam-dunk hit set to arrive in just a few months.

As reported by Korean publication Maeil Business News (via @Jukanlosreve), Samsung just published its annual outlook for the company’s mobile division (MX) ahead of next year’s product lineup, and it’s about as aggressive and confident as we’ve seen. Samsung expects the Galaxy S26 series — which should constitute the usual S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra devices, alongside potential Edge and FE releases later in the year — to sell a whopping 36 million units, with the entire smartphone lineup set to potentially hit 240 million globally. If successful, MX could bring Samsung over $90 billion in sales alone.

Breaking down these expectations reveals even bigger aspirations, with the S26 series set to balloon its predecessor’s success. Throughout the first half of this year, Samsung managed to sell 22 million S25 units, a figure it hopes to clear by at least 2 million additional devices. Foldables are also a massive part of Samsung’s plan for 2026, with the Fold 7 and Flip 7 pegged to move a combined 5 million units following their presumed mid-year arrival. And while smartphones unsurprisingly dwarf its tablet lineup, the company hopes to move at least 27 million Galaxy Tab models.

This extremely positive outlook comes on the heels of a surprisingly strong year for Samsung, with the Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy Z Fold 7 both managing to outperform expectations. While you could chalk this success up to plenty of reasons — an ongoing upgrade cycle as older-but-beloved devices begin to reach EOL, the thin-and-light build of the Fold 7 — Samsung sees it as a response to the brand’s focus on AI. Considering the success of AI-heavy devices like the Pixel 10, it might be tricky to push back on that line of thinking, though it’s unclear if Galaxy AI specifically is the reason for this revived market success.

Either way, it’s clear Samsung thinks it has a hit on its hands for next year. The Galaxy S26 series is rumored to debut in San Francisco in late February, with on-shelf availability presumably set for early March.
